While it’s a lame excuse, I honestly just got busy and time is a valuable commodity. It’s not as if my passion for sandwiches or my sandwich consumption rate really dropped over the last 7.5 months. I honestly don’t really know what happened. To those of you who came here weekly, anxiously looking for new content only to be disappointingly greeted by the same old post from May, I am truly sorry. Far longer than I expected to ever go between sandwich reviews. It has been 225 days since I last blogged about sandwiches. Pretty disappointing sauce options.įirst, let me address the elephant in the room. I tried both, but nothing really to write home about here. That said, they did provide me with two types of mustard I could add to said sandwich: Sweet Hot Mustard and Deli Mustard. It literally was just two pieces of rye bread and pastrami. Sauceīy default, this sandwich came with no sauce on it. This pastrami was phenomenal! Loaded between the two slices of bread in heaping allotments, this pastrami was astoundingly juicy with a rich, warm flavor to it. That’s right, pastrami! Since this was literally the only thing in the sandwich, it really needed to punch above its weight to give this sandwich a fighting chance at earning a decent review, and gosh darn-it, it really did. Sauerkraut, or some melted cheese at least? MeatĬan you guess what meat was in this sandwich? I bet you can. I mean technically the menu doesn’t say there is anything in the sandwich, but I kind of expected something in there. It tasted just like rye bread should, rye-like. I mean for literally being just a piece of untoasted bread, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Toasting aside, the rye bread was pretty damn good. While I understand why – stylistically, some places feel untoasted is the preferred bread style for pastrami sandwiches, I personally prefer toasted bread for warm sandwiches like this.

As such, I did just that and ordered the New York Hot Pastrami Sandwich. I mean, when a super popular place comes out and basically says ‘this is the sandwich we are known for,’ I kind of have to order it. Thus, when I arrived at Sherman’s and saw a sandwich titled New York Hot Pastrami Sandwich with the sub-text that said ‘ This is one of our all time favorites,’ I felt I really didn’t have much of a choice. As you all know, Jewish delis are known for their pastrami sandwiches. He also apparently left the US to go fight in World War II at the age of 18 and returned with a German Shepherd puppy hidden in his duffel bag – pretty neat! The SandwichĪnyways, consider yourselves lucky because I’m going to spare you any more ramblings and immediately dive into my review of the sandwich. Deep roots in the Palm Springs community. I did some research into the man behind Sherman’s deli and he seems like he was a real standup guy. This is the portion of the blog where I would normally go on a slight diatribe about something tangentially related to my sandwich review however, this time around, I don’t have all too much to write up. Why do I mention that? Well, it just so happens that dead people, approximately dead people, and me love Jewish delis and so Palm Springs is a great place for all of us to be. Another fact about Palm Springs is the average age of the residents out here is approximately dead. As many of you know, Palm Springs is a sleepy town – there really is not much to do besides hang out by the pool, play golf, and eat great food (exactly my kind of place). What’s this? 2 reviews in one day? Ha – and y’all thought I was retired! News flash, I’m back!Īs I mentioned in my prior Some Crust post, Abby and I headed out to Palm Springs the past few nights as we wanted to spend some time in the desert (nothing like playing golf on December 23rd in 70 degree weather 😉).
